Step 1
Step 1: Shove down on both sides of the drill to adjust depth.


Step 2
Step 2: Drill should protrude the full length of screw.


Step 3
Step 3: Insert the pilot drill flush with your drill chuck.


Important Note: Using an awl will let you start a screw but does not prevent the screw from splitting the frame. In some woods, an awl will actually split the frame even before you put the screws in, as shown in A. Our pilot drills remove just the right amount of wood to prevent splitting without affecting the pullout strength of the screws. The proper depth pilot hole will also allow the screw to go in easier, as shown in B.
